Firefighter
Scott Eaton (left) uses hydraulic spreaders to help free the occupant of
this car following a collision at the intersection of Maumelle Blvd. and
Bringler Dr. March 11, 2005. Volunteer Firefighter Larry Pruss (center) and
Firefighter Shane Holmes look on while Captain Tim Bullard is in the vehicle
assisting the patient. The patient is covered with a safety blanket to prevent
further injuries from debris.
The
hydraulic spreaders are one of three tools commonly referred to as the "Jaws
of Life." These tools allow Maumelle firefighters to safely cut the car away
from patients so that they can be removed from the vehicle without further
injury.
