As
Maumelle dispatch was paging out Engine 1 and Maumelle's volunteer firefighters
for a "possible" residential structure fire on Cinderwood Dr., the members
of Engine 1-C were approaching the area on Maumelle Blvd. and saw fire blowing
from the rear of the house. This nearly instant response allowed firefighters
to quickly knock down the fire.
During the intial stages of the fire, a motorist attempted to drive over
the supply hose firefighters were using to provide water to their pumper
from the hydrant. Not only is driving over a fire hose dangerous for the
firefighters, it is also illegal. Never attempt to drive over fire
hose!

The
initial investigation concluded that the fire was started by a lightning
strike during a short but severe thunderstorm that swept through the Maumelle
area late in the afternoon.

Nearly
every variable in this incident went in the favor of firefighters. Neighbors
saw the fire in its early stages, the fire department was able to initiate
an attack only moments later and the design of the home's attic helped keep
the fire in check.

 |
Fire
damage was limited to the attic and exterior of the home. Other portions
of the home suffered some water and smoke damage.
