As a line
of severe storms passed through Maumelle on the afternoon of November 21,
2007, neighbors witnessed lightning strike this house at 4 Fairway Drive
-- igniting the ceder shingle roof. The four on-duty firefighters staffing
Engine 1 found heavy fire upon their arrival. Assistance was quickly requested
from North Little Rock Engine 4 and off-duty Maumelle firefighters were recalled
to work.

Firefighters
used multiple handlines as large as 2.5" in diameter in addition to master
streams from Engine 1 and Truck 1 to quickly knock down the main body of
fire and protect
exposures.

Maumelle
received assistance from both the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department and
the North Little Rock Fire Department to respond to this house fire as well
as to provide coverage for the rest of the city.

| Firefighters
Woods and Woody doff their SCBA masks and prepare to rehab after working

Engineer Kyle Howard helps exchange SCBA bottles for Firefighter New and
Volunteer Firefighter Michael Felty. A total of seven volunteers responded
to the fire, helping to staff Truck 1 and Engine 2. |
